In Karnataka, hefty fees demands from students will no more allowed in all schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
From the next academic year, schools in Karnataka will have to follow the fee structure prescribed by the state department of primary education.
The CBSE, in its recent circular sent to all CBSE schools across India, directed all affiliated schools to follow the concerned state department of primary education's prescribed fee structure.
Surprisingly, Karnataka primary education department officials also came to know about the move, even though the CBSE did not send the copies of the circular to any state governments, and decided to discuss the issue with the state primary and secondary education minister.
The principal secretary, state department of primary and secondary education, Dr RG Nadadur, stated "We need to issue an government order regarding framing a separate fee structure for CBSE schools, but we have to discuss the issue with the minister."
A new fee policy have already been started framing by TN, AP.
In a recent meeting which was held at Delhi, we have discussed the same issue of all the state education department secretaries, added Nadadur.
According to the department officials, the education department needs to consult the legal department and look for the possible amendments in the Education Act, to frame a separate fee structure for CBSE schools.
A separate fee structures have already started framing by CBSE schools in the neighboring states of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. For this purpose, both states have set up district level committees. Nadadur said "We too need to think on those lines, because the cost of living is different in each city, and the committees will help analyse that."
